Since it is NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month), it is time for me to buck the trend and write something shorter than a novel and longer than a short story. Two years ago, I wrote an Urban Fantasy novella called They Eat Eyes, which involves all kinds of crazy. Because I hate editing and avoid revisiting work like the plague, I’m still working on the second draft. However, having completed something of that length (even if it’s only a draft) filled me with quite a bit of pride and motivation. Since then, I’ve wanted to do something comparable.
Thus, this year for NaNoWriMo, I decided to write a novella or novelette. Right now, I’m looking at writing about 800 words per day to hit the word count for novella, but even then, I don’t know that I’ll require that much length for the story I’m telling, which is titled Like Rabbits. I guess it’s kind of a wait and see sort of thing.
Like Rabbits is a bit of a departure from the usual fare you see from me. There’s nothing supernatural about it, though it does explore some of the similar mask-related themes that were in El Monstruo.
I’m looking forward to sharing it when it is completed (hopefully) at the end of this month.
